FAQ

Questions, answered

How does your estimate work, and what does it include?

We walk the house, photograph it and write every line down, in the order of your insurer's estimate. It includes the permit, haul-away and cleanup. See How pricing works.

What changes the price?

The size and pitch of the roof, the layers, the deck, the material, code items and matching.

Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?

The city or county decides. When your job needs one, we pull it and it's a line in the estimate.

How long will it take, and when can you start?

A roof is usually a few days once it starts. The start depends on the season, the weather and the crew's calendar, and we give you a window in writing.

What do you hold, and where can I check it?

A state contractor registration, an EPA certificate and insurance. They're on the registration page, and the footer of every page.

Is my house built before 1978? What about lead?

Paint in older homes can contain lead. EPA's rule covers paid work that disturbs painted surfaces in those homes, with limited exceptions: minor repairs under 6 square feet inside or 20 square feet outside, though window replacement and demolition are always covered. Tell us the year the house was built, and see Registration and insurance for what we hold.

What if you find something behind the wall?

We stop, show you and price it on a written change order before we go on.

How do change orders work?

In writing, before the work, signed by you.

What are your deposit and payment terms?

A deposit to order material and schedule the crew, a payment when the roof is on, and the balance after the walk-through. The amounts are in your contract.

Who will be in my home?

A named lead. You get their name and number before the first day.

What is the warranty, and what does it cover?

Our workmanship warranty is written in your contract with its term and what it covers. The manufacturer's warranty on materials is separate. Neither covers a later storm.

Do you offer financing?

Not at this time. If you need help covering your deductible, a bank or credit union can talk it through with you.

What do you not do?

We don't negotiate your claim, work on commercial buildings or start a rebuild before a signed contract.

Can I live in the house during the work?

Usually yes. Roof work is outdoors. Interior work we plan around your family, and we tell you when a room will be unusable.

Still have a question?

Call or text. We'd rather answer it before the storm than after.
